The Charles E. and Carol J. Miller Family Foundation, dba. The Miller Family Foundation, was founded in December 2014. Modeling the philanthropic legacy and faith-based beliefs of both Charles and Carol Miller, The Miller Family Foundation’s core purpose is investing in “The Common Good” initiatives, causes, and programs that build towards a better tomorrow for our community, nation, and world.
In accordance with bylaws, The Miller Family Foundation only donates to 501c3 organizations in good standing.

Lori was born in Boulder, Colorado 1961. The oldest of the Miller three children she pursued a path of creative energy in her chosen field of primary education and in her business career. Lori taught kindergarten and first grade at a distinguished Springfield, Missouri private elementary school. Following her marriage to John Vinyard in 1985 Lori accepted the position of general manager of August Max stores headquarted in Kansas City Missouri. Lori has maintained a long-standing interest in nonprofits and specifically in the support of charitable activities at the Red Cloud Indian School, Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Additionally, Lori was involved with the Longmont Community Foundation participating in Grant evaluation. Lori has sustained a life-long interest in American history and creative design.
Lori has two daughters, Alyssa and Kelsi.
“Christy” was born and raised in Boulder CO. After graduating with academic distinction from Fairview High School, Christy attended Drake University graduating Cum Laude with a BS degree in Business Administration. Christy was awarded an internship with IBM where she assisted in the development of marketing material for the first IBM personal computer. From 1987 to 1989 Christy was employed by the Roling Advertising Agency as an account executive. Other administrated positions held by Christy include business manager for a Boulder Pediatric practice and for a local Non-Profit organization, Real Choices — an organization dedicated to helping women thru crisis pregnancies. Among Christy various charitable activities includes volunteering her services to the Longmont Community Foundation (LCF). A member of the LCF Granting-Committee, Christy was responsible for evaluating and qualifying grant request.
Christy is married to Tom Roling and has twin children, Courtney and Brian
Chuck A. Miller, MBA, has 25+ years of experience in marketing, business development and small business ownership. He has co-founded four start-up ventures, including his most recent two start-up ventures being acquired. Chuck is credited with generating, developing and cultivating profitable businesses, from start-ups to multinationals. Chuck has strong expertise in developing effective marketing and sales strategies for B2B companies in the life sciences, healthcare and technology market sectors.
Chuck is the current Managing Partner at CEMA Ventures LLC. Prior to taking on this role, he served as Founder & President at The Market Element LLC, which was acquired by CG Life in 2020. In 2009, Chuck was a founding member and Director of Marketing & Business Operations of a scientific instrumentation start-up company in Boulder, CO (picoSpin LLC), that eventually sold to Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2012. Chuck is currently serving as a Board Member for TecTraum, Q Magnetics and the Miller Family Foundation.
Chuck holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS and an MBA from the University of Colorado at Boulder, CO.
Carol J Miller (1939 – 2022), was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. Graduated from the University of Missouri Dental School as a dental hygienist and worked in Kansas City before marrying Charles in 1960. and moving to Boulder, CO. The mother of three children Lori, Christy, and Chuck kept her busy but also worked part time at Fairview high school. Carol had been a volunteer for meals on wheels since 1987. A long supporter of Indian causes, Carol had been actively involved for years in clothing drives and various educational initiatives at the Red Cloud Indian school for the Native Americans on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Carol became a member of the Longmont community foundation serving as chairman of the greeting committee. Carol also taught Bible study for a women’s group. Her interest included reading, crafts, cooking, helping people and attending the arts. Being with Family and Friends was Carol’s first priority and Love.
Charles E. Miller is Founder and President of CEM and Associates, LLC, a technology, real estate, and economic development investment company. In addition, Charles serves as Chairman of several technology companies; Instrutech, picoSpin, LLC., FlowPro LLC, all of which he is a co-founder.
Charles received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1960 and his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1962. From 1960 to 1967 he was employed by the National Bureau of Standards as a research and development engineer in Cryogenic Instrumentation. In 1964, Charles received a NASA Honorarium award for his work in densitometer development. From 1967 to 2001 he served as President/CEO of Engineering Measurements Company (EMCO), a public company he founded to develop and market advanced instrumentation for the measurement and control of liquids and gases.
Charles has also served on the Board of a number of technology companies, including; Measurement Auditors Company, Tienet Inc, Metratech, Regional Air Group.
Over the years, Charles has served as principal negotiator in a number of corporate acquisitions, including; Digital Valve Company (DVC), Data Communication Systems, Inc (DCS), Fluidyne, Inc., and University Instruments Company.
Committed to philanthropic efforts, Charles and his wife Carol have established a Family trust, which supports a number of non-profit organizations–both domestic and foreign. Associated activities: Longmont Community Foundation, Meals on Wheels, and Miller Family Foundation.
